About this Training
This training is designed to provide a working application for the principles of Disability Justice and considerations for students with disabilities in the CSHE context. Participants will develop an understanding of systems of inequity using the 4 Is of Oppression. We will utilize case studies to unpack the learning considerations that come up for neurodivergent and disabled students in the CSHE learning environment and review common barriers and concerns of full inclusion and participation. Finally, we will practice addressing concerns from peers and families and applying our new knowledge and frameworks in real time by looking at possible accommodations for current CSHE lesson materials.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between the social and medical/deficit models of disability
- Understand the history of the Disability Justice movement and intersections with Racial and Reproductive Justice
- Utilize the 4 Is framework to understand how oppressive systems impact us internally, interpersonally, institutionally, and ideologically
- Identify considerations for effective implementation of Disability Justice
