WA PREP brings together public health, education, and capacity-building expertise to help Washington schools and youth-serving organizations plan, implement, evaluate, and sustain comprehensive sexual health education.
What is WA PREP?
WA PREP stands for Washington Personal Responsibility Education Program. It supports educators and youth-development professionals who provide comprehensive sexual health education, commonly called CSHE.
WA PREP helps partner organizations strengthen program planning, professional learning, implementation, evaluation, family engagement, and long-term sustainability. Support is customized because every organization, staff team, and community starts in a different place.
WA PREP primarily prepares and supports the professionals and organizations that provide CSHE. It is not primarily a direct-to-student teaching program.

Washington State Department of Health
Role: Program Administration and Public Health
The Washington State Department of Health manages WA PREP through its adolescent and young adult health work. DOH provides statewide program leadership and connects WA PREP with broader efforts supporting youth health and well-being.

Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction
Role: School Guidance and CSHE Implementation
The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction helps Washington schools understand and implement state CSHE requirements. OSPI provides guidance, resources, technical assistance, curriculum information, and professional learning.
Cardea
Role: Capacity Building and Professional Learning
Cardea brings experience in capacity building, professional learning, evaluation, planning, and implementation support. Its approach helps organizations build skills, turn plans into action, and strengthen their work over time.

Partners represent communities throughout the state and may serve young people in school, community, public-health, or juvenile-justice settings. Because partnership requirements and available support may change, organizations should contact the WA PREP team to discuss current options.
